1. Job description

Job/Fellowship Reference: C2008-FCTUC CEMDRx2 v09

Main research field: Physics

Sub research field: Experimental Condensed Matter Physics, X-ray and neutron scattering

Job summary:

One full time research associate position in the area of experimental condensed matter physics (X-ray and neutron scattering). The candidate will be integrated in the current research at CEMDRX on X-ray crystallography and crystal engineering; he/she will carry on X-ray diffraction and neutron scattering measurements aiming at structural, charge and magnetisation density studies.

Job description:

The candidate to one full time research associate position in the area of PHYSICS (experimental condensed matter physics, X-ray and neutron scattering) should have experience in experimental condensed matter physics in the field of scattering techniques. Experience in experimental charge density studies and previous research activity at large scale facilities (neutron diffraction or synchrotron radiation centres) is a plus. He/she will be integrated in the current research projects of CEMDRX and is expected to develop autonomous work within the main research topics pursued at this research centre. Scattering experiments will be performed in house or at large scale facilities such as ILL, ISIS, ESRF.

He/she should also have a keen interest in magnetic materials and motivation to interact with experimentalists from the X-ray Diffraction Centre for Materials Research (CEMDRX) and theoreticians from Centre for Computational Physics (CFC) of the University of Coimbra.

All candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Physics, Materials Science or Chemistry and have at least 3 years experience as a postdoctoral fellow previous experience (at least 2 years experience in experimental condensed matter physics and one year of experience with X-ray or neutron scattering). Applicants should send a curriculum vitae, a publication list, a summary of performance indicators (number of citations, h-factor), a motivation letter, a one-page summary of accomplishments to date and their significance, and two letters of recommendation to jap@pollux.fis.uc.pt or to the following postal address:
