The Research Centre for Didactics and Technology in Teacher Education aims to promote, foster, support and divulge research in the Didactics of Specific Areas and Educational Technology and their articulation with similar domains, since 1994. It is housed in the Department of Didactics and Educational Technology of the University of Aveiro.
Its external evaluation has been conducted by an international board of evaluators assigned by and in accordance with FCT criteria and has always obtained the assessment of Excellent.
The three positions that CIDTFF offers now are integrated in its main scientific research lines as described above:
For position A - The Laboratory of Quality Assessment in Education (LAQE) offers a research position for the development of projects in the area of assessment and evaluation in education and health, namely through the realization of surveys at a national level. Therefore the candidate should be an expert in quantitative research, and have a background in statistical techniques for data analysis. The projects to be developed should also have a strong social impact and therefore the candidate should have a background in previous works where this dimension had played an important role. Two examples of such surveys are: (a) evaluation of the integration paths of PhD holders in the labour market and (b) evaluation of formative needs of informal caregivers. The candidate should also be prepared to show competences in team work as the projects to be developed are integrated within an existing research structure, LAQE, where other researchers are developing projects in similar fields of the two surveys mentioned before.
Another aspect to be taken on board in this job position is the importance which should be given to the dissemination of the results found, namely involving multimedia techniques. Then the candidate should also have ICT competences.
For position B - The development of scholarship of teaching and learning in Higher Education is essential to deal with diversity in students’ population and challenges that institutions are facing when taking the Bologna Process seriously. This scholarship envisages to contribute to consolidate a front of research and development in which the advancement of learning and teaching in science, using students’ questions as key tools, should be at the centre of a research program.
Candidates should have experience in research on the development of novel strategies for teaching and learning in higher education. In particular it is expected to be familiar with relevant theoretical frameworks for understanding key factors in the improvement and design of strategies and instruction models for HE institutions facing great diversity in students’ population.
The advancement of scholarship of teaching and learning together with the exploitation of student questions should be considered in the design and promotion of a research program.
For position C - The development of quality digital didactic resources as well as education programmes associated to their exploitation with a view towards the development of research in the field of scientific and technological literacy is fundamental for increasing the interest of young people in science and technology. To work in a multidisciplinary team is considered adequate to reach that purpose. Using the facilities of the Didactic Courseware Laboratory and the Open Science Education Laboratory seems appropriate. So the position will include working with other researchers in the CIDTFF in order:
(i) to conceive, develop and assess digital resources (including multimedia/ICT software) for teaching and learning of science (4-12 year olds);
(ii) to develop didactic strategies for teacher education in order to use digital resources;
(iii) to evaluate the impact of the conceived didactic resources in students (science learning) and teachers (professional development).
All positions will include some form of (co) supervision of researchers in the area. Moreover, it is expected that post holders could support supervision of young researchers in their area and occasionally conduct seminars or short courses at the master and doctoral level on his/her field of expertise.
The post holders will become full members of CIDTFF, contributing effectively towards its development and visibility, e.g. by means of publishing articles, producing research reports and participating in national and international Conferences.
Qualification and Experience: Applicants should hold a PhD in a relevant field and display evidence of work developed in the area. It is required that candidates have had research experience and at least one publication in a refereed International Journal based on research established and developed after the PhD (published or accepted for publication).
Contract: An initial contract of 1 year, renewable up to 5 years, will be offered to the candidate that is recruited on the basis of the results of the CV analysis and the report of the work done.
The decision of granting a position depends on the final approval of Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT).
Applications: To apply, please send (a) presentation letter explicitly stating the position the application refers to – A, B or C, (b) CV with photo, (c) 2 reference letters; and (d) a work plan within the requirements of the job description.
All the documentation must be written in English and all the references in the CV must be complete.
The candidates that fulfil the minimum requirements will be notified by e-mail for an interview.
