Scientific area: Computer Science and Engineering
Have a master degree in Computer Science and Engineering or similar area. Preference will be given to students that have experience with Computer Vision and Deep Learning and that have scientific publications related to the workplan.
If the academic degree required for this competition has been awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 341/2007, of October 12, and any formalities established there must be fulfilled until date of expiry of the application deadline.
Expected work includes participation in all activities of UBI in the sub-project SP2 of INDTECH 4.0, entitled Advanced Inspection Systems. Among these works are: state-of-the-art survey in artificial vision including image acquisition of specular surfaces and the use of deep neural networks (i.e. deep learning); the specification and development of the main algorithms of acquisition, processing and analysis of image and artificial intelligence in the context of the detection and identification of defects. Also included are the activities of integrating methods developed in prototypes, as well as testing and testing them.
The objectives are to produce technical reports, develop and implement new approaches to the problems identified and the writing of scientific articles related to the work done.
Legislation and applicable regulations:
Law no. 40/2004, of 18 de August, amended by Decree-Law no. 202/2012, of 27 August, by Decree-Law no. 233/2012, of October 29, by Law no. 12/2013, of 29 January and Decree-Law no. 89/2013, of July 9 (Statute of the Scientific Research Grant), as well as the Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology IP (FCT) in force (www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/docs/RegulamentoBolsasFCT2018.pdf ).
The work will be developed in the SOCIA laboratory of the Department of Informatics of the University of Beira Interior, under the scientific guidance of Professor Luís A. Alexandre.
Duration of the scholarship:
The scholarship will last for 12 months, starting during August 2018. The scholarship contract may be renewed until the end of the project (28 February 2021) or up to a maximum of 36 months if the end date of the project is extended.
Amount of the monthly maintenance allowance:
The amount of the scholarship corresponds to 980 €, according to the table of values ??of the grants awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in Portugal (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores.phtml.pt). The payment of the scholarship will be made monthly by bank transfer. Voluntary social insurance is added to the value of the scholarship, if the candidate chooses to join it, as well as personal accident insurance.
The selection methods to be used will be the following: curricular evaluation and interview (which can be done by video-conference), with a respective assessment of 70% and 30%.

Form of publication / notification of results:
The results of the evaluation will be publicized through a list sorted by final grade obtained posted in a visible and public place of the Department of Informatics of the University of Beira Interior, and the candidate approved will be notified by email.

The call is open during the period from 11 July 2018 to 24 July 2018.
