Job description:
The Centro de Estudos de Sociologia e Estética Musical (CESEM) seeks two Ph. D. researchers with at least three-year post-doctoral experience and with relevant scientific work and publications in one of the three following fields:
1. Composition and Performance Studies. The candidate's record should indicate outstanding intellectual quality and also demonstrate the ability to work in a team, sharing knowledge and responsibilities and assisting the development of projects that fit CESEM's research profile. The hired candidate will be expected to contribute with innovative approaches to the work and projects currently under development in CESEM, or in cooperation with other national and international research institutions. The candidate must demonstrate strong knowledge in at least two of the following areas: music analysis, music composition, computer music, music performance. The ability to develop an interdisciplinary research approach in those areas is a quality that is highly valued.
2. Music Psychology. The candidate's record should indicate outstanding intellectual quality and also demonstrate the ability to work in a team, sharing knowledge and responsibilities, and assisting the development of projects that fit CESEM's research profile. The hired candidate will be expected to contribute new perspectives to activities and research projects currently under development in CESEM, and in cooperation with other national and international research institutions. The candidate should show a demonstrable interest in studying music and language as cognitive and emotional systems in early infancy, and strong motivation to study the musical behavior of children through natural and controlled observation. Technological skills and analytical skills applied to video and sound recordings will be a significant advantage.
3. Sociology of Music. The candidate's record should indicate outstanding intellectual quality and also demonstrate the ability to work in a team, sharing knowledge and responsibilities, and assisting the development of projects that fit CESEM's research profile. The hired candidate will be expected to contribute new perspectives to the work and projects currently under development in CESEM, or in cooperation with other national and international research institutions. The candidate should preferably demonstrate an interest in critical theory/aesthetics of music and/or gender issues.
CESEM expects that all new full-time researchers will respond to challenging projects, and will assume responsibility for the organization and coordination of scientific events. Finally, he/she will be expected, as part of the workload, to connect research projects with the life of the university and its students.
The researchers will be part of CESEM’s research team and scientific committee, where he/she can develop and manage work in close collaboration with other members, taking advantage of protocols with other university institutions, in an atmosphere of interdisciplinary dialogue, both at a national and an international level.

Remuneration: Base salary – 43 000 € (annual)
