Admission requirements: Master’s Degree in Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, Biology or related fields. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in animal cell culture, stem cells, transplantation, or development of biomaterials.
Activity Outline: Development of strategies based on cellular co-cultures and encapsulation using advanced biomaterials targeting pancreatic transplantation therapies for the treatment of diabetes.
Legislation and regulations: The fellowship is in accordance with Law Nº. 40/2004, 18th August (Research Fellow Statute) and regulations for Advanced Training of Human Resources of Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) I.P. — no. 234/2012, no. 326/2013 and no. 339/2015 (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml.pt) and the Regulation of Scientific Research Grants from the University of Aveiro – Regulation n.º 341/2011, published in Diário da República, 2nd series, n.º 98, 20th Maio.
Workplace: The work will be carried out at CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials, University of Aveiro, under the scientific supervision of Dr. Mariana Braga de Oliveira and Prof. Dr. João Mano.
Duration and scope of activity: The fellowship will have a duration of 12 months on an exclusivity basis, eventually extendable to a maximum of 12 months, and is expected to begin in November of 2018.
Value of monthly maintenance allowance: 980 Euros/month (tax free) according to the official table for Research Grants from FCT - http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores, to be paid monthly via bank transfer.
Evaluation Criteria and Process: The evaluation criteria are: curricular evaluation and, if the elements of the Jury consider necessary, interview to the top 3 candidates. The curricular evaluation will weight 100% of the final score, or in case of interview, curricular evaluation will account for 70%, and interview for 30%. If none of the candidates has an adequate profile for the project tasks, or a high-quality curricular profile, the Jury may not attribute the grant to any of the candidates.
The final results will be publicly displayed as an ordered list, according to the final score of the candidates, in a visible and public location of CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials, University of Aveiro. The selected candidate will be notified by e-mail.
