Research field: Organic Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Biochemistry or related areas.
Admission requirements: Master´s Degree in Organic Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Biochemistry or related areas, with experience in synthesis and chemical modification of macromolecules, with the objective to develop biomaterials for biomedical applications. Preference will be given to candidates with a final average superior or equal of 15 values and with knowledge in polymer and supramolecular chemistry and with experience in characterization techniques.
Activity Outline: The researcher will be involved in the modification and structural characterization of natural polymers, namely marine origin polymers, and their conjugation with bioactive molecules, for the development of flexible membranes for biomedical application.
Legislation and regulations: The fellowship is in accordance with Law Nº. 40/2004, 18th August (Research Fellow Statute) and regulations for Advanced Training of Human Resources of Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) I.P. — no. 234/2012, no. 326/2013 and no. 339/2015 (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml.pt) and the Regulation of Scientific Research Grants from the University of Aveiro – Regulation n.º 341/2011, published in Diário da República, 2nd series, n.º 98, 20th May.
Workplace: The work will be carried out at CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials, University of Aveiro, under the scientific supervision of Dr. João Rodrigues and Prof. Dr. João F. Mano.
Duration and scope of activity: The fellowship will have a duration of 12 months on an exclusivity basis and is expected to begin in January of 2019. The grant can be eventually extendable to the deadline of the project.
Value of monthly maintenance allowance: 980 Euros/month (tax free) according to the official table for Research Grants from FCT - http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores, to be paid monthly via bank transfer.
Evaluation Criteria and Process: The evaluation criteria are: curricular evaluation and, if the elements of the Jury consider necessary, interview to the top 3 candidates. The curricular evaluation will weight 100% of the final score, or in case of interview, curricular evaluation will account for 70%, and interview for 30%. If none of the candidates has an adequate profile for the project tasks, or a high-quality curricular profile, the Jury may not attribute the grant to any of the candidates.
The final results will be publicly displayed as an ordered list, according to the final score of the candidates, in a visible and public location of CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials, University of Aveiro. The selected candidate will be notified by e-mail.
