The consortium brings together groups with a very interdisciplinary expertise ranging from polymer synthesis and characterization, computational modeling and physicochemical characterization of materials to bioavailability, nanoparticle formulation, drug distribution and nanotoxicity, genetics, drug delivery and Neurosciences. The NANOSTEM network is formed by 9 internationally recognized research institutions (Queen Mary University of London, UK; Helmholtz Zentrum München in Germany; Centro Neurociencias e Biologia Celular, Portugal; Université d’Artois, France; Karolinska Institutet, Sweden; Centro Hospitalar e Universitario de Coimbra, Portugal; MJR Pharmjet GMBH, Germany; University of Birmingham, UK; Universitaet Innsbruck, Austria), complemented by 5 partner organisations (Sanofi, HCS-Pharma, Brains for Brain, Saarland University and Instituto de Ciências Nucleares Aplicadas à Saude) who will contribute to the research training programme.

Job description:

The selected candidate (PhD student) is expected to evaluate the biodistribution of nanoparticles, particularly in the brain, and to demonstrate the effectiveness of the therapy in motor and cognitive animal tests. Previous experience in animal testing is desirable.
