Job description:
CETAPS (Centre for English, Translation and Anglo-Portuguese Studies) is the result of a merger between two previously existing research units: IEI, the Institute for English Studies, based at FLUP (Porto), and CEAP, the Centre for Anglo-Portuguese Studies, based at FCSHUNL (Lisbon). The grant here advertised will apply to research to be carried out within the branch of CETAPS located at the University of Porto, where four research projects are based: 1) Shakespeare and the English Canon: a research and translation project; 2) Mapping Dreams: British and North-American Utopianism; 3) Relational Forms: Intertextual and Inter-Arts Dynamics in the Cultures of Ireland and Britain; 4) Intersections in American Literature, Culture and Thought. Though it is expected that the recipient of the grant will be able to collaborate with the Porto branch of CETAPS as a whole, his/her main interests should be more directly related to the first research project, “Shakespeare and the English Canon: a research and translation project”. As a closer networking of all the research projects within CETAPS is envisaged for the near future, candidates should also be prepared to contribute to the development of that networking.
In general, candidates should be experienced researchers and be able to offer an active contribution towards the goals of the ongoing research projects. The post holders will be required to communicate effectively with Faculty. Motivation to participate in seminars and academic publications is also required.
Requirements:
Applicants should display evidence of independent research, managerial and computer skills and significant scientific accomplishments. They must hold a Ph.D in English Studies, and some post-doctoral research experience.
Application: To apply, please send your complete CV (with photo) in English, a statement of purpose outlining your goals, two recommendation letters by two referenced academics in the field, as well as any other materials that you would like to be considered by the Selection Committee.
The deadline to receive the applications is September 30th. Questions and applications should be addressed to ciencia2008@fcsh.unl.pt with the subject Ciencia 2008 – Job Reference.
The number of researchers to hire is dependent of the decision of FCT.
