The Postdoc researcher will collaborate, as part of the Portuguese team of ELIXR, with researchers from other ELIXR nodes across Europe on the implementation studies in which Portugal is participating (https://elixir-europe.org/about-us/implementation-studies). They include, 2019-EIP2 -  Interoperability with a Purpose (https://elixir-europe.org/about-us/implementation-studies/interoperability-purpose), 2019-Galaxy (https://elixir-europe.org/about-us/implementation-studies/expanding-galaxy) , 2019-FHD – ELIXIR Federated Human Data (https://elixir-europe.org/about-us/implementation-studies/federated-human-data), 2019-Containers (https://elixir-europe.org/about-us/implementation-studies/container-orchestration), and other projects/implementation studies in which the Portuguese node of ELIXIR participates.

The Instituto de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores, Investigação e Desenvolvimento em Lisboa (INESC-ID) is one of the largest and most dynamic research institutes in Portugal in the areas of Computing Systems and Communication Networks, Embedded Electronic Systems, Information and Decision Support Systems, Interactive Intelligent Systems and Energy Systems.

One research grant Postdoctoral  is now available to develop ELIXIR Commissioned Services, funded by the ELIXIR e-infrastructure (https://elixir-europe.org/about-us) under the following conditions:

Duration

12 months from September 01, 2019. The grant may be renewed within the period of the project, not exceeding the maximum period set by the Regulations for Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) for such grants. Renewal is subject to suitable performance.

Legislation

A fellowship contract will be celebrated according to the Regulations for Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology in force the INESC ID Grant regulations approved by FCT, and to the Status of Scientific Research Fellow (Lei nº 40/2004 de 18 de Agosto, and its successive amendments).

Monthly amount

The monthly amount of the grant (1 509,80€) is in accordance with the values stipulated in the “Regulations for Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology” in force (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamentos.phtml.pt) and (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores) and INESC-ID Lisboa Grant Regulations approved by FCT, and shall be rendered through a monthly bank transfer to an account held by the grantee

Objectives / summary

Scientific supervision

The activity will be supervised by Mário J. Silva, Full Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa, and researcher at INESC-ID Lisboa. The grantee will be integrated at INESC-ID in the Information and Decision Support Systems Lab (https://idss.inesc-id.pt/).

Required education Level and research experience

The candidate should have a PhD degree in Computer Science and Engineering/Biology with specialization in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, or similar areas, and a minimum of 2 years of demonstrated experience in collaborative development of bioinformatics services.

Language skills - proficiency in English

Evaluation criteria

Academic record of the candidate and interest for the following areas of research i) bioinformatics, with programming skills in Java, Phyton and R in the Linux operating system environment (30%);  ii) software/tools and resources to support research in the area of Knowledge Management of Biological Data and FAIR data production standards (30%); iii) publication record (20%).  The Jury will interview the two candidates with higher classification.  In order to perform a more objective evaluation of some of the criteria, the interview will count for 50% of the evaluation of each criteria above.

Language and Communication skills (English) will also be considered as criteria 20%.

Results
