Research field: Biomedical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Bioengineering, Chemistry and related areas.
Admission requirements: Master´s Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Bioengineering, Chemistry and related areas, with experience in synthesis and characterization of biomaterials for biomedical applications. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in chemical modification of natural polymers, particle engineering at the nano and micro scales, synthesis and characterization of biomaterials through the layer-by-layer technology and experience in the culture of mammalian cells.
Activity Outline: The researcher will be involved in the modification and structural characterization of natural polymers, namely marine origin polymers, in the synthesis of different types of particles at the nano and micro scales and their deposition through the layer-by-layer technology for the development of biomedical devices.

Workplace: The work will be carried out at CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials, University of Aveiro, under the scientific supervision of Dr. Ana Sofia Silva and Prof. Dr. João F. Mano.
Duration and scope of activity: The fellowship will have a duration of 12 months on an exclusivity basis and is expected to begin in November of 2019. The grant can be eventually extendable to the deadline of the project.
Value of monthly maintenance allowance: 989,70 Euros/month (tax free) according to the official table for Research Grants from FCT - http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores, to be paid monthly via bank transfer.
Evaluation Criteria and Process: The evaluation criteria are: curricular evaluation and, if the elements of the Jury consider necessary, interview to the top 3 candidates. The curricular evaluation will weight 100% of the final score, or in case of interview, curricular evaluation will account for 70%, and interview for 30%. If none of the candidates has an adequate profile for the project tasks, or a high-quality curricular profile, the Jury may not attribute the grant to any of the candidates.
The final results will be publicly displayed as an ordered list, according to the final score of the candidates, in a visible and public location of CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials, University of Aveiro. The selected candidate will be notified by e-mail.
