In accordance with the article 9 of the Regulation No. 393/2018, published in Diário da República, 2nd series, of June 28th, regarding the recruitment and employment contract for researchers, Prof. Cláudio Manuel Simões Loureiro Nunes Soares, Director of Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica António Xavier, informs that an international call is now open, for a period of 50 working days, from the day of the publication of the present notice in Diário da Republica, for the recruitment of four positions for Auxiliary Investigator, under an employment contract for a non-fixed term, under private law regime, in the main areas of Biology/Biochemistry/Chemistry focusing in the following scientific profiles: 1) Computational Omics, 2) Infection Biology, 3) Chemical Biology, 4) Experimental Virology, 5) Bio-NMR, 6) other areas relevant to the activity of MOSTMICRO-ITQB Research Unit.
This is an international application procedure and is ruled by the provisions of article 11 and seq. of the Decree Law 57/2016, of August 29th, altered by Law 57/2017 of July 19th, for the development of scientific and training activities, under the framework of the research unit MOSTMICRO-ITQB, UIDP/04612/2020, funded by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (IP).

II – Job description:
Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica António Xavier (ITQB NOVA), Oeiras
The ITQB NOVA is an Organic Unit of the Universidade NOVA de Lisboa devoted to scientific research and postgraduate teaching in life sciences, chemistry, and associated technologies, while serving the community and promoting science and technology. ITQB NOVA is one of the leading research centres for life sciences and chemistry and in Portugal, founded in 1989, and incorporated in 1993 into the Universidade NOVA de Lisboa. The work will be carried out within the research programme of the MOSTMICRO-ITQB Research Unit, an FCT funded Research Unit rated Excellent by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) in 2019.
MOSTMICRO-ITQB gathers microbiologists, biochemists, structural biologists, computational biologists, cell biologists, geneticists, molecular epidemiologists, and chemists, creating an ideal environment for multidisciplinary work. The Unit, started in 2013, aims to understand biological processes at the Molecular, Structural, Cellular and Population levels, with an emphasis on microbes important for human health, biotechnology and the environment. MOSTMICRO-ITQB research focuses on: 1) Molecular bases of processes that sustain microbial life, 2) Anti-infective strategies against microbial pathogens and 3) microbial factories for clean biotechnology for health and sustainability.
2) Duties to be performed:
The procedure is open for recruitment of four Investigators to develop independent research work in any of the following scientific areas: 1) Computational Omics, 2) Infection Biology, 3) Chemical Biology, 4) Experimental Virology, 5) Bio-NMR, 6) other areas relevant to the activity of MOSTMICRO-ITQB Research Unit.
Successful candidates are also expected to i) attract external funding; ii) coordinate national and international projects; iii) play an active role in developing international scientific collaborations; iv) supervise and train researchers at the Master, doctoral and postdoctoral levels; v) participate in teaching activities of ITQB NOVA; vi) participate in technology transfer activities; vii) participate in the academic and management bodies of ITQB-NOVA; viii) integrate the activities of the Institute, namely science outreach activities.
3) Remuneration and applicable legislation:
The researchers will be hired with a salary position-TRU 54, corresponding to a gross annual salary of 45,728.90 €.
The employment contract is for an uncertain term (according to the article 18, paragraph b), and paragraph 1 and 3 of article 6, DL No. 57/2016, of August 29, amended by Law No. 57/2017, of July 19, with an initial period of 12 months, renewable. The contract is foreseen to start in January 2021.
4) Other benefits:
MOSTMICRO-ITQB will support successful applicants with a start-up package, individual lab space, modern facilities, as well as technical and administrative support.
III – Requirements:
1) General admission requirements:
In accordance with No. 1 of the article 10 of Research Scientific Career Statutes, this procedure has the following general requirements:
a) The candidates must hold a Doctorate degree in one of the scientific areas of this call;
b) The candidates must have a scientific and professional curriculum with a profile suited for the activity to be performed, demonstrating scientific maturity to lead an independent research group.
If the doctoral degree has been conferred by a non-Portuguese higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16, and with all formalities established therein, which must be fulfilled by the application deadline.
2) Specific Admission Requirements:
a) At least 3 years postdoctoral research experience in one of the scientific areas specified above;
b) Proven experience in the area of the application, through original scientific publications ;
c) Experience as Researcher in scientific projects with competitive funding;
d) Excellent communication skills (oral and written);
e) Excellent interpersonal skills;
f) Ability and willingness to contribute to the common goals of MOSTMICRO-ITQB;
g) Fluency in English (spoken and written).
h) Experience in student supervision will be valued;
i) Teaching experience in university courses or other advanced courses will be valued;
IV – Submission of the applications:
1) Required documents:
a) Motivation Letter including a short presentation of the research goals for the next 3 years (maximum of 10000 characters);
b) Copy of the PhD certificate or diploma;
c) Detailed Curriculum vitae, organized according to the items listed in point III 2) of this public notice;
d) Copy of the five most relevant papers published by the candidate, and a rationale for the choice (described in the Motivation Letter);
e) Contacts and reference letters from two references;
Applications containing all the aforementioned documents must be submitted within 50 working days from the date of publication in Diário da República.

3. Failure to submit any of the mandatory documents under the current notice, shall result in the exclusion of the candidate without the possibility of appeal.
V – Methods of selection and definition of their weights/evaluation criteria:
Curricular evaluation (evaluation of Curriculum vitae and Motivation Letter, including the presentation of the research goals for the next 3 years, as specified in general and special requirements) - 90%.
Interview - 10%.
After curricular assessment, the best qualified candidates in each scientific area will be selected for interview.

VII – Selection process:
After the application deadline, the Committee will meet to assess and rank the candidates.

Notification of Results: All candidates will be informed of the decisions by email.
