A research grant is available at the University of Coimbra on the " Enhancing Research in Ageing at the University of Coimbra - Era@UC " project – Grant Agreement 669088 , with the following characteristics:

Type of activity: Research Grant under the project ERA@UC. The position is available for highly motivated candidates interested in carrying out research within the scope of ERA@UC project. The candidate will study the regenerative properties of exosomes. The candidate should have knowledge in exosomes and neurosciences.

Applicant profile: The candidates should have a MSc degree in Biological Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Biochemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, or similar. The candidates must be enrolled in a PhD program or, alternatively, in a non-degree course in areas related with the aim of this position such as scientific research, statistical analysis or similar. The registration by itself is not enough for the candidate to be eligible for the position, the PhD program or the non-degree course must have started before beginning this research contract.
“Non-degree courses” are the ones referred to in paragraph e) of nr. 3 of article 4 of Decree -Law No. 74/2006, from 24 March, in its current wording, provided that they are developed in association or cooperation between a higher education institution and one or more R&D units, according to foreseen in the paragraph e) of Article 3 of the FCT Research Scholarship Regulation.

Financial conditions: The amount of the grant is € 1064 corresponding to the monthly compensation stipulated in the FCT table (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores.phtml.en), plus social security (Seguro Social Voluntário, first level contributions) and personal accidents insurance. The payment will be made by bank transfer. This amount will not be increased during the entire period of the grant duration.
Regime: The attribution of the grant does not generate or entitle a relation of a legal-labour nature, it is undertaken in an exclusive dedication regime and the fellow is granted with the Fellow Statute of the University of Coimbra, according to Research Grant Statute, and the Regulation of Research Grants of the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P. , both in its actual wording.
Selection methods: The candidates will be evaluated according to their general CV and knowledge in the area that is open the present public tender (70%) and the 3 best candidates will be interviewed (30%).

The 3 best candidates will be interviewed by the jury and classified (between 0 and 100) for each of the following criteria:

E. Clarity in speech (50%)
(If no candidates have the requested profile, the scholarships will not be awarded).

Candidates with foreign academic diplomas are obliged to present records of the recognition of such diplomas according to the Portuguese law.
i) Motivation letter, written in English, specifying the acquired knowledge;

iii) Copies of supporting documents of qualifications declared;
iv) Copies of the registration in a PhD program and/or in non-degree courses;
v) 2 recommendation letters, to make proof of previous knowledge in research areas close to the activity of the object. This aspect will be valued in the evaluation;
vi) Declaration on honour of the candidate with indication of the research grants of the typology to the contest that he/she held and the respective duration OR declaration on honour of the candidate stating that he/she has never been in research grants of this typology, depending on the case.

Additional information: The evaluation results will be announced within 90 days after the end of the applications submission deadline, by notifying the applicants via email. After the announcement of the results, candidates are considered automatically notified to, if they wish to do so, comment on the results on a preliminary hearing period within 10 days after that date. After this, the selected candidates will have to declare in writing their acceptance. Unless a justification worthy of consideration is presented, if the declaration is not submitted within the referred period, it is considered that the candidate waivers the grant. In case of resignation or withdrawal of the selected candidate, the next candidate with the highest evaluation score will be notified immediately.
