A call for two postdoctoral research fellowships is open, in the framework of the project “Centro de Matemática da Universidade de Coimbra” (reference: UIDP/00324/2020), financial support by national funds through FCT/MCTES, in the following conditions:
Scientific area: Mathematics.
a) PhD in mathematics.
b) PhD degree obtained within a three-year period prior to application date.
c) The fellowship host institution must differ from the applicant's degree-conferring institution.
d) The research activity to be carried out by the grantee does not require post-doctoral experience.
e) The grantee must not exceed, under the new contract, an accumulated period of three consecutive or interpolated years with the same type of fellowship, including renewals.
Work plan: The work will be related to CMUC’s research areas: Algebra and Combinatorics; Analysis; Numerical Analysis and Optimization; Probability and Statistics; Geometry; Algebra, Logic and Topology.
Regime: The attribution of the fellowship does not generate or entitle a relation of a legal-labour nature, and the fellowship is undertaken in an exclusive dedication regime. The fellow is granted with the Fellow Statute of the UC, in its current wording, according to the Statute of the Scientific Research Fellow, and according to the Regulation of Research Grants of the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P., both in their current wording.
Location: Department of Mathematics – Faculty of Sciences and Technology at the University of Coimbra.
Duration: 12 months.
Renewal: Possibility of renewal for 12 months, based on the evaluation report from the scientific supervisor.
Scientific orientation: The scientific supervision of the grants will be ensured by Professor Jorge Manuel Senos da Fonseca Picado.
Financial conditions: The amount of the grant is € 1.616,00 corresponding to the monthly compensation stipulated in the FCT table (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores.phtml.en), plus social security (Seguro Social Voluntário, first level contributions) and a personal accidents insurance. The payment will be made by bank transfer. This amount will not be increased during the entire period of the grant duration.
Selection methods: Initially, the jury evaluates the curriculum of the candidates according to the criteria defined below. Candidates who obtain at least 80/100 will be interviewed in a second stage. The final grade is a weighted average, with a weight of 4/5 given to the curricular evaluation criterion and 1/5 to the interview. For non-interviewed candidates, the final grade equals the score obtained in the first stage.

Letters of recommendation: 10%.

Adaptation to CMUC’s scientific activity: 40%.
Preference will be given to applicants with experience in the areas in which CMUC members are scientifically active and also to candidates with good English skills.

Additional information: The evaluation results will be announced within 90 days after the end of the applications submission deadline, by notifying the applicants via email. After the announcement of the results, candidates are considered automatically notified to, if they wish to do so, comment on the results on a preliminary hearing period within 10 days after that date. After this, the selected candidates will have to declare in writing their acceptance. Unless a justification worthy of consideration is presented, if the declaration is not submitted within the referred period, it is considered that the candidate waivers the grant. In case of resignation or withdrawal of the selected candidate, the next candidate with the highest evaluation score will be notified immediately.
