Job:

The post holder will join the CB-UM and integrate the ongoing research projects within the areas of plant genomics and metabolomics. The post holder will also have the opportunity to start independent projects in the scope of those research lines. The post holder will be offered Centre’s common research facilities and technical support. There are post–graduation teaching obligations up to 4h/week. The Centre holds a dynamic and young research staff, endeavouring a considerable effort on international post-graduation programmes and presently hosting more than 60 master and PhD students and post-docs. Additionally, the Centre wants to implement new and demanding technical approaches by reinforcing its human critical mass, in order to reinforce the participation in international funding programmes and networks.

 

Within the Centre of Biology of the University of Minho (CB-UM) the Plant Biochemistry and Molecular Physiology research group has been interested in the understanding of growth and development strategies taken by plants to face the adverse environment conditions, such as high temperature, salinity or oxidative stress. This group is also interested in deciphering the basic mechanisms regulating plant development, such as those occurring during senescence, fruit maturation, transport of nutrients and mycorrhiza development.

 

The Biotechnology and Bioactivities of Aromatic and Medicinal Plants research group has been conducted concerning the chemical and bioactivity characterization of plant products and their biotechnological production, involving homologous and/or heterologous genes expression in in vitro systems, using high throughput phytochemical, genetic engineering and metabolomics approaches.

 

The post holder will integrate the ongoing research projects within plant genomics and metabolomics, but will also have the opportunity to start his/her own independent research projects and organize new joint translational projects with staff researchers, in the scope of those research lines. The candidates profile will include established background in plant functional genomics, in what concerns the study of genes involved in development and tolerance to abiotic/biotic stresses and metabolomic approaches. Preference will be given to candidates that also have strong knowledge on application of informatics and statistics to biological data.

There are post–graduation teaching obligations up to 4h/week.
