Job summary:

The candidate will collaborate with the ongoing research projects on Pharmacological Activity of Compounds applying bioinformatic tools in structural modelling/analysis. There is the opportunity to start independent research within the scope of the lines defined by the Centre. Centre’s research facilities and technical support will be offered. Post-graduation teaching obligations up to 4h/week expected. The applicant should include the CV, a reference and a motivation letter for the position.
Job description:

The candidate will join the Centre of Biology of the University of Minho (CB-UM) which develops high quality scientific activity in both fundamental and applied research, including projects in the following general areas: Microbial Cellular and Molecular Biology; Yeast Biotechnology; Plant Biochemistry and Molecular Physiology; Biotechnology and Bioactivity of Aromatic and Medicinal Plants; Animal Cell Lines in Evaluation of Drug Pharmacological Activity; Biodiversity and Environment.
 
The Centre holds a dynamic and young research staff, endeavouring a considerable effort on international post-graduation programmes and presently hosting more than 60 master and PhD students and post-docs. Additionally, the Centre wants to implement new and demanding technical approaches by reinforcing its human critical mass, in order to reinforce the participation in international funding programmes and networks.
 
Qualifications and Experience
The post holder will integrate the Centre’s ongoing research projects on the Evaluation of Pharmacological Activity of synthetic and natural compounds from Aromatic and Medicinal Plants, both using Animal Cell Lines and Microbial Cells. The candidate must have strong background in molecular biology, pharmacological sciences and be familiar with bioinformatic tools for in silico structural modelling/analysis. He/she is expected to contribute to the: prediction of pharmacological applications of natural or synthetic compounds based on chemical structure/bio-activity relationships and elucidation of their mechanisms of action. Applicants should hold a PhD and display evidence of independent research and significant scientific achievements. The successful candidate should have a strong publication record in the area of Molecular Modelling: Chemical Structure/Bio-Activity Relationships.
