Job description:
Universidade de Lisboa | University of Lisbon
CeGUL is developing expertises on geochemical applications to support research in paleoenvironmental reconstructions and environmental problems. Emphasis is being put on specific geochemical signatures leading to the definition/characterization of both geogenic and antropogenic elemental recycling. Main research goals will address a holistic approach to the issues of elemental mobilization and transport in coastal areas, considering the whole biogeochemical cycle of selected elements (particularly heavy metals) and a deep insight into their specific geochemical carriers.
On these bases, the CeGUL is making available a five year Ph.D. research position for a scientist committed to deal with applied and fundamental research on environmental geochemistry. The successful candidate should have a good knowledge/experience in environmental geochemistry and its applications to unravel the functional structure of biogeochemical cycles, particularly in marine and transitional (estuarine/lagoonal) environments. A solid background on stable isotope geochemistry (O and C) analytical techniques and applications to environmental geology is an important selective criterion.
A proven record on the capacity to publish scientific papers in high quality international journals is required. Candidates should be fluent in English; a good knowledge of Portuguese would be desirable.
The successful candidate will be physically located in the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon. He/she will become involved in ongoing projects in the CeGUL Unit, but will also be expected to design new projects and pursue funds for research.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Geological Sciences or closely related field, and should submit their curriculum vitae, a letter of motivation, up to five selected reprints, and names and addresses of three individuals who can be contacted for letters of reference.Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years postdoctoral research experience.
5-year position, base salary: 43k€ (annual)
