Job description:
The Centre for Textile Science and Technology (2C2T), R&D unit of the University of Minho, ranked as Excellent, financed by the National Science and Technology Foundation (FCT) in Portugal, invites applications for one available position for research scientist in the field of High-tech Textiles, Mechanics of Flexible Materials and Fiber Structures, Physical and Chemical Properties of Polymers, Fibers and Films and Physiological Science.
The successful candidate will be member of the Textile Physics group of 2C2T which is composed of eight PhD researchers working in the different areas of textile development and innovation, involving materials and products, as well as, textile processing.
In the last 5 years, the group, in cooperation with other research institutions and industrial companies, was involved in several national and international projects targeted towards the development of novel textile-based structures and products with added functions oriented to medical, protection, sports and safety applications. The large majority of the projects is carried out by multidisciplinary teams and can be grouped in the following science and technology fields:
* Development of active and interactive textile-based products integrating electronic systems in textile structures (low and medium integration levels).
* Development of add-on kits and integration techniques of micro-system devices in traditional textile technologies.
* Investigation of the functional behavior of electro active materials after textile processing (weaving, knitting and sewing).
* Statistical modeling of the mechanical and thermo physiological behaviors of disposable and durable textiles.
Following the same strategy and research approach the group is currently seeking for applicants in the emerging area of e(electronic)-textiles and i(interactive) products, to cooperate with the group in the development of multifunctional fibers and textile structures for sensing and monitoring different external and internal stimuli.
Specific qualifications are:
* a PhD or equivalent degree in Mechanics, Materials Science, Physics, Engineering or a related discipline,
* demonstrated ability to conduct research, as evidenced by a thesis or publications in top-tier international journals,
* ability in integrating multidisciplinary project groups involving micro systems embedding in textile substrates, taking into account comfort properties,
* experience in integrating research teams of national and international projects,and
* ability to make clear and effective oral and written presentations of scientific and technical information.
Candidates with expertise in theoretical work, and modelling and computation of mechanical behaviours and properties of materials, are encouraged to apply.
2C2T provides an intellectually stimulating environment with key research projects in the domain of high-tech textiles, mechanics of flexible materials, physiological science, modelling and simulation of complex scientific and engineering problems for the textile and clothing industries.
