Call for Post-Doctoral Grant
The University of Coimbra offers one Post-Doctoral grant to work on the Project TRAPHIC – “Traffic related air pollution impacts on historic city centres: an integrated approach”, with the following characteristics:
Number of grants: 1
Type of activity: the aim of this scholarship is to develop research activities, providing advanced post-doctoral training. The researcher will work in project TRAPHIC-“Traffic related air pollution impacts on historic city centres: an integrated approach” that aims at developing a consistent approach to evaluate the impacts of air pollution related with road traffic on human health and buildings in historical city centres. The researcher will be involved in tasks focused on transportation, air quality and exposure modelling techniques development and applications.
Financial support: Supported by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) through national funds (PTDC/ECM-URB/3329/2014), and the co-funding of the European Regional Development Fund (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-016729) and COMPETE2020.
Applicant profile: PhD in Environmental Engineering or related fields.
Location: Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Sciences and Technology, University of Coimbra.
Duration: 12 months

Financial conditions: The amount of the scholarship is 1.495,00€, paid at the end of each month by bank transfer, plus social security (seguro social voluntário, first level contributions) and a personal accidents insurance.
Regime: The attribution of the scholarship does not generate or entitle a relation of a legal-labour nature, it is undertaken in an exclusive dedication regime and the fellow is granted with the Fellow Statute of the University of Coimbra, according to the Fellow Statute and the Regulation of Research Grants of the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), both on their current version.
Selection methods: Curriculum evaluation (70%) and interview (30%).
Selection and attribution criteria:
A. Curriculum evaluation: Applicants will be ordered according to their global evaluation of CV (60%) and R&D experience (40%). Candidates are expected to have research experience in at least one of the following fields: air quality modelling, time series analysis, geospatial analysis.
B. Interview: The best 3 qualified applicants in curriculum evaluation will be invited for an interview, which might include a brief presentation on their last scientific achievements. The following criteria will be considered in the interview: motivation (40%), communication skills (40%) and English language skills (20%). The interview can be organized via Skype.
Formalization of application: Applications should be formalized by sending a:
1. Letter of motivation;
2. Detailed curriculum vitae, listing academic qualifications, past and current activities, scientific publications and tutoring experience;
3. Copies of Academic Degree Diplomas;
4. Two reference letters
5. Candidates with foreign academic diplomas are obliged to present records of the equivalence/recognition of such diplomas and the conversion of the respective final notes to the Portuguese classification scale (whenever a final classification is attributed with the foreign diploma), issued by the Directorate-General for Higher Education or by a Portuguese public higher education establishment (regulated by Decree-Law no. 341/2007, of 12 October) or, in alternative, present the document of equivalence/recognition of such foreign qualifications to the corresponding Portuguese qualifications, issued by a Portuguese public higher education establishment (regulated by Decree-Law no. 283/83, of 21 June).

Additional information: The evaluation results will be announced within 90 days after the end of the applications submission deadline, by notifying the applicants via email. After the announcement of the results, candidates are considered automatically notified to, if they wish to do so, comment on the results on a preliminary hearing period within 10 days after that date. After this, the selected candidates will have to declare in writing their acceptance. Unless a justification worthy of consideration is presented, if the declaration is not submitted within the referred period, it is considered that the candidate waivers the scholarship. In case of resignation or withdrawal of the selected candidate, the next candidate with the highest evaluation score will be notified immediately.
