A Post-Doctoral Research fellowship (Reference ICETA 2017-43) is now open for applications at ICETA (CIBIO-InBIO) - in the context of the Project PORBIOTA – Portuguese E- Infrastructure for Information and Research on Biodiversity – 22127. This project will be a distributed e-infrastructure to manage biodiversity data and meta-data from multiple sources (data providers). Tailored according to the national needs (research, management, policy, governance, citizen science), but compliant with requirements of LIFEWATCH and other international initiatives, it aims to promote a national agenda of biodiversity survey and research, and to provide services to the administration, the scientific community and society.

Required background and skills:
A PhD degree with a focus on entomology, insect ecology or similar. The candidate should demonstrate practical experience in the sampling and taxonomic identification of insects, including experience in both field and lab work. He/she should also demonstrate competence in the use of molecular biology in taxonomic and ecological studies, including the preparation of DNA barcodes for insect specimens, and the use of metabarcoding to address ecological questions. A relevant publication track record in the area of entomology is valued. The candidate should also have a driving license, and high proficiency in spoken and written English.
Working Plan: The successful candidate will be an entomologist or insect ecologist that will work on the component of PORBIOTA related to the Portuguese Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) Network, focusing on the Baixo Sabor LTER Site.
Legislation framework: A fellowship contract will be celebrated according to the regulations defined by FCT “Regulations for Advanced Training and Qualification of Human Resources”, in accordance with Law 40/2004, of 18 August, as amended and republished by Decree-Law No. 202/2012 of 27 August, and as amended by Decree-Law No. 233/2012 of 29 October and by Law No. 12/2013, of 29 January, and Decree-Law No. 89/2013 of 9 July, to Fellowships Regulation of FCT (www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/docs/RegulamentoBolsasFCT2015.pdf).
Place of work: CIBIO, Campus Agrário de Vairão.
Duration and Starting date: 12 months, starting in January 2018, with the possibility of renovation for the same period.
Stipend: Monthly stipend is €1495 according to the stipends established by FCT, I.P. in Portugal (http://alfa.fct.mctes.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores) plus social security. Payment will be made by bank transfer on a monthly basis.
The candidates will be ranked according to the relevance of academic degree(s) (10%), the professional experience in the fields of entomology or insect ecology (25%), the professional experience in the fields of DNA barcoding and metabarcoding (25%), the academic track record, including authorship in publications and presentations (20%), and the motivation letter (10%). the top-most ranked candidates may proceed, if considered needed, to an interview. The interview will focus on the motivation of the candidate and his or her knowledge on the subject of this call. The interview may also include a technical discussion and/or technical questions. The jury will not choose any of the candidates if they all fail to demonstrate their fit to the position.
