A post-doctoral research grant is available for scientists who currently hold a Doctoral degree in Science or Engineering disciplines within the framework of project SELMA - Unveiling the self-healing mechanisms associated with smart nanocontainers, PTDC/QEQ-QFI/4719/2014, financed by national funds through FCT/MEC (PIDDAC) and, when applicable, co-financed by FEDER under the PT2020 Partnership Agreement, under the following conditions:

Admission requirements: Prospective applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Science or Engineering disciplines, with a preference for the areas of Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, and Physics.

 

Activity Outline: The main goal of the research is the computational study of the structure and diffusion of corrosion inhibitors within the galleries of smart nanocontainers derived from layered double hydroxide materials. The particular objectives to be achieved by the post-doc researcher are:

- Determine how corrosion inhibitors are released from the nanocontainers;

- Analyze the diffusion of corrosion inhibitors within the galleries of the nanocontainers;

- Build a molecular model for understanding the corrosion inhibiting properties of organic compounds.

The computational studies will be based, preferentially, on molecular dynamics simulations and, therefore, strong knowledge in this kind of techniques is highly recommended.

 

Legislation and regulations: The fellowship is in accordance with Law Nº. 40/2004, 18th August (Research Fellow Statute) and regulations for Advanced Training of Human Resources of Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) I.P. — no. 234/2012, no. 326/2013 and no. 339/2015 (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml.pt) and the Regulation of Scientific Research Grants from the University of Aveiro – Regulation n.º 341/2011, published in Diário da República, 2nd series, n.º 98, 20th Maio.

 

Workplace: The work will be carried out at CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials, University of Aveiro, under the scientific supervision of Doctor José R. B. Gomes (CICECO, University of Aveiro) and Doctor João Tedim (CICECO, University of Aveiro).

 

Duration and scope of activity: The fellowship will have a duration of 6 (six) months on an exclusivity basis, eventually extendable to a maximum of 15 (fifteen) months, and is expected to begin in March 2018.

 

Value of monthly maintenance allowance: 1495 Euros/month (tax free) according to the official table for Research Grants from FCT - http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores, to be paid monthly via bank transfer.

 

Evaluation Criteria and Process: The evaluation criteria are: i) Scientific track record; ii) Previous experience in related areas; iii) Interview, with values of 8, 7 and 5 points, respectively. Only candidates who have obtained a classification of at least 10 points in the sum of criteria i) and ii) will be invited for an interview. The final results of the evaluation will be communicated by email.

 

Juri: The Jury responsible for the evaluation process is composed of: Doctor José R. B. Gomes (University of Aveiro, president of the Jury), Doctor João Tedim (University of Aveiro), and Doctor Sérgio M. Santos (University of Aveiro).
