Open Call for a Research Fellowship (Post-Doctoral) on the scope of the following project “Tau therapeutics in Down syndrome & Alzheimer’s disease synaptic pathologies.”

The ICVS – Life and Health Sciences Research Institute (www.icvs.uminho.pt), School of Health Sciences, University of Minho, Portugal, a member of the ICVS/3B’s – Associate Laboratory, has available a position for an Research Fellowship (Post-Doctoral), under the framework, of the project “Tau therapeutics in Down syndrome & Alzheimer’s disease synaptic pathologies”, financed by the Jerome Lejeune Foundation. The position will be attributed to the following conditions:
Scientific Research field
Neurosciences, Neurodevelopmental and Neurodegenerative disorders.
The application requirements are the following
Appropriate candidate should obtain a PhD in Neuroscience or similar areas such as Biology or Biochemistry. Preference will be given to candidates with solid experience in molecular and cellular techniques of brain and synaptic connectivity as well as behavioral analysis while previous experience in epigenetics and/or electrophysiology are welcome. He/she should be extremely dynamic with skills in experimental design and critical data analysis. Above all, candidates should be enthusiastic to learn new techniques and to contribute to new experiments.
The activities to be carried out will be in the scope of advanced postdoctoral training.
The researcher will be part of a young team studying the role of Tau protein on brain aging and pathology applying state-of-the-art experimental approaches of synaptic plasticity and brain networks. Using in vivo, ex vivo and in vitro approaches, successful candidate will systematically analyze the involvement and modifications of candidate genes/proteins in brain aging and pathology but also their reversibility by specific drug.
This grant is awarded under the Scientific Research Grant Recipient Statute, approved by Law 40/2004 of 18 August 2004, amended by Dec. Lei 202/2012 of August 27, with the changes introduced by Dec. Lei 89/2013 of July 9, Dec. Lei 233/2012 of October 29 and Law 12/2013 of 29 January 2013, in conjunction with the Science and Technology Foundation in force (www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml.pt).
Place of work
The research activities will be carried out at the Life and Health Sciences Resaerch Institute (ICVS), School of Medicine, University of Minho, Braga, Portugal, under the supervision of Investigador Ioannis Sotiropoulos.
Duration and Terms of the Activity
Initial duration is six months, with starting date predicted for 15th March 201, the grant may be renewed within the period of the project, 31th August 2019.
Renewal is subject to suitable performance.
The grantee shall work under the regime of exclusive dedication according to article 5 of the Researcher's Statute, in conjunction with article 22 of the FCT Research Grants Regulation I.P. Applicable by UMinho FCT regulations for advanced training of human resources.
According to the amounts stipulated by FCT for Research Grants in Portugal: 1495,00€. (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores). The payment of the scholarship will be made monthly by bank transfer.
Other benefits: Reimbursement of Voluntary Social Security, corresponding to the 1st Tier of the tax base and Personal Accident Group Insurance.
Evaluation will be based on the applicant’s merit, taking into account the academic profile (30%), the curriculum vitae (30%), his/her interview (20%) as well as experience in scientific research with relevance to this project (20%).

In case of impediment, the president of the Jury will be replaced by an effective vowel.
The final evaluation results will be publicized through an ordered list, and the approved candidate will be notified of the Jury decision by e-mail.
