LASIGE opens one position for researchers in any of the following alternative profiles:
A) Computer Applications of the Life and Medical Sciences
The candidate should have skills in biomedical sciences and statistics while having already good familiarity with software development methods and algorithms, bringing a fresh perspective on the latest trends in biomedical informatics and extending LASIGE expertise.
Research under this action, to be conducted under the Biomedical Informatics research line of LASIGE, aims at contributing towards better software tools to assist health professionals in taking the best possible decisions assuring patient safety, using organisational, molecular, clinical and public health data management methods. LASIGE researchers in this domain are networking with epidemiologists from several other research units under the Lisbon Epidemiology Consortium (CEL). This action intends to focus and consolidate these activities under a common umbrella, projecting LASIGE as a unit with critical mass in the field.
B) Knowledge, Cognitive and Learning Systems
The new PhD will contribute to research directions under this initiative seeking stronger synergies with activities in environmental and bio-sciences. We intend to bring expertise in text mining, geographic information retrieval, collaborative systems and social networks, and information visualisation into new innovative geographic information systems applications. The created synergies will in turn lead to new insights about interaction, learning and knowledge representation.
The candidate should be a specialist with basic training in other sciences (not Informatics) that will cooperate internally and help in setting new projects in domains which have not been pursued in depth until know, for lack of critical mass. The addition of new doctors with the above described profiles would help in consolidating a team within the unit, focused on applying IT to a domain that is also of strategic importance within the upcoming EU framework programme.
