The MARE - Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre (UID/MAR/04292/2013) at ISPA – Instituto Universitário, is opening a position for a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow, with the financial support of FCT/MCTES through national funds, under the following conditions (and pending formal approval of the R&D Unit funding):
Scientific area: Marine and Freshwater Sciences
Job description: The post-doc will be responsible to: i) Operate as an effective team player at MARE-ISPA; ii) Develop research on biogeography, ecology, phylogeny and phylogeography of aquatic organisms, including sample collection, laboratorial procedures and data analyses; iii) Write scientific papers and present results at scientific meetings; iv) Write scientific proposals for competitive calls and collaborate in administrative tasks in managing research; v) Contribute to the development and implementation of conservation measures for species and habitats of conservation concern. Mandatory requirements: i) PhD in Biology or equivalent area; ii) Excellent publication record in the fields of biogeography, ecology, phylogeny and phylogeography of fishes; iii) Vast experience in sample collection, laboratorial procedures and pertinent software for molecular analyses; iv) Previous knowledge of the European, Iberian and Portuguese ichthyofauna, threatened endemic species and relevant taxonomical and conservation issues; v) Previous experience in writing scientific proposals for competitive calls and project management.

Address of workplace: The candidate will be working at ISPA – Instituto Universitário, under the scientific orientation of Doctor Joana Robalo (Assistant Professor) and Doctor Emanuel Gonçalves (Associate Professor).
Duration: The appointment will be full-time and starting on April 15th 2018 and will end by December 31st 2018.
Monthly internship for full-time position: According to the regulations of the FCT Scientific Fellowships in Portugal (http://alfa.fct.mctes.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores) the net monthly salary will be of €1.495, which will be paid by bank transfer. The fellow will be covered by a personal accident’s insurance and can contribute voluntarily to the national social security system, according to Dec-Lei n.º 40/89 from 1th February.
Selection Procedure: Candidates will be ranked based on their personal merit as assessed by their Curriculum Vitae (50%) and Motivation Letter (20%). The top candidates (to a maximum of five) will be selected for a second phase, which consists of an interview (30%).
