Scientific area: Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering and related scientific areas.
Work plan: To develop biomass gasification technology to produce syngas with potential for energy conversion applications. The work includes the development of knowledge about biomass pre-processing, process and technology of biomass gasification, including the influence of process variables such as fuel, equivalence ratio, temperature, and processing of product gas to obtain good quality syngas. The work involves components of experimental development, complemented with numerical simulation tools, using a laboratory bench-scale installation and a pilot-scale demonstration facility (75 kWth), both with fluidized bed reactor.
Admission requirements: the candidate must have,
a) Master degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related scientific areas;
b) Relevant experience in the physico-chemical characterization of biomass, and in thermo-chemical conversion processes (combustion, gasification, pyrolysis) of biomass for energy vectors and organic products.
Working place: The work will be carried out at the University of Aveiro, RAIZ and PCI- Science and Innovation Park and in the Doctoral program teaching place.
Grant duration: 12 months (and may be renewed successively), with starting planned for june 2018.
Scientific supervision: Professors Luís António da Cruz Tarelho and Manuel Arlindo Amador de Matos, from University of Aveiro, and Doctor Paula Cristina de Oliveira Rodrigues Pinto, from RAIZ – The navigator Company.
Grant financial conditions: The value of the grant is 980 €, in agreement with the “Regulamento de Bolsas de Investigação Científica da Universidade de Aveiro – Regulamento n.º 341/2011, publicado em Diário da República, 2ª série, n.º 98, de 20 de Maio”. The fellowship will be paid monthly by check, bank transfer, or another equivalent method.
Selection method: CV analysis (70%) and relevant experience for the proposed workplan (30%). To clarify specific aspects the 3 first candidates might be called for a personal interview. In that case the previous classification will account for 70 %, and the interview for 30%.
