Scientific Area: Computer Science and Engineering
Admission Requirements: the candidate must have a Master of Science degree in Computer Science and Engineering or similar area. Preference will be given to students that have experience with Computer Vision and Deep Learning and that have scientific publications related to the work plan.
If the academic degree required for this competition has been awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 341/2007, of October 12, and any formalities established there must be fulfilled until date of expiry of the application deadline.
Expected work includes participation in all activities of UBI in the sub-project SP3 of INDTECH 4.0, entitled Autonomous Movement Systems. Among these works are: state of the art survey in autonomous navigation systems; the specification and development of the main algorithms of autonomous navigation and SLAM as well as methods of environment sensing. Also included are the activities of integrating the methods developed in prototypes, as well as testing them.
The objectives are to produce technical reports, develop and implement new approaches to the problems identified and write scientific articles related to the work done.
Legislation and applicable regulations:
Law no. 40/2004, of 18 de August, amended by Decree-Law no. 202/2012, of 27 August, by Decree-Law no. 233/2012, of October 29, by Law no. 12/2013, of 29 January and Decree-Law no. 89/2013, of July 9 (Statute of the Scientific Research Grant), as well as the Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology IP (FCT) (www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/docs/RegulamentoBolsasFCT2018.pdf ).
Work place: The work will be developed at the SOCIA laboratory of the Departamento de Informática, University of Beira Interior, under the scientific guidance of Professor Luís A. Alexandre.
Duration of the grant: The grant will last for 12 months, starting during October 2018. The grant contract may be renewed up to a maximum of 27 months.
Amount of the monthly maintenance allowance: The amount of the scholarship corresponds to 980 €, according to the table of values of the grants awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in Portugal (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores.phtml.pt). The payment of the scholarship will be made monthly by bank transfer. Voluntary social insurance is added to the value of the scholarship, if the candidate chooses to join it, as well as personal accident insurance.
Selection methods: The selection methods to be used will be the following: curricular evaluation and interview (which can be done by video-conference), with a respective assessment of 70% and 30%.

Form of publication / notification of results: The results of the evaluation will be publicized through a list sorted by final grade obtained, posted in a visible and public place of the Departamento de Informática of the Universidade da Beira Interior, and the accepted candidate will be notified by email.
