NOTICE OF THE OPENNING OF AN INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION FOR RECRUITMENT ONE POST-DOC RESEARCHER

 

António Fernando Sousa da Silva, Full Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Sciences of Oporto University, advertises the opening for 15 working days of an international competition for recruitment of ONE researcher holding a PhD, within the Projecto de Investigação Científica e Desenvolvimento Tecnológico (IC&DT): 02/SAICT/2017, “Limiting laws ruling dynamical systems” funded by FCT, reference PTDC/MAT-PUR/28177/2017.

 

Field of study: Mathematics

Subfield: Dynamical Systems and Extreme Value Theory

Admission requirements:

1) PhD in Mathematics or related area.

2) Research Experience in Extreme Value Theory or Ergodic Theory.

Young researchers who obtained their PhD recently are encouraged to apply.

In case the PhD has been obtained by a foreign Institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 341/2007, and any formalities established there must be fulfilled up to the application deadline. Failure to comply with these requirements will result in the rejection of the application.

 

Work plan:

 

Scientific Research in Dynamical Systems, Ergodic Theory and Extreme Value Theory.

Applicable laws and regulations:

Legal framework: Decree-Law Nº, 57/2016 of 29th August, amended by Law no. 57/2017 of 19th July, establishing the Regulation of Scientific Employment (Regime Jurídico do Emprego Científico - RJEC); Regulatory Law no. 11-A/2017 of 29th December; the Labour Code in the current version of Law no. 7/2009 of 12th February.

 

Under the terms of Article 18 of RJEC, the present call for tenders is exempt from: i) authorization from the Government officials in charge of the areas of Finance and Public Administration, as specified in Paragraph 3 of Article 7 of the Public Service Labour Law (Lei de Trabalho em Funções Públicas – LTFP); ii) a prior favourable opinion from the Government officials in charge of the areas of Finance and Public Administration (as specified in Paragraph 5 of Article 30 of the LTFP); and iii) the legal procedure for the recruitment of workers in the process of requalification, as specified in Article 265 of the LTFP.

 

Workplace: The work will be developed at Center of Mathematics of the University of Porto, based at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, under scientific supervision of the responsible researchers of this project.  

 

Duration of the contract: This work contract starts on the 1st of December of 2018 and remains for the period necessary for the execution of the defined tasks, in a regime of exclusive dedication.

 

Value of monthly maintenance allowance: €2.128,34 according to item a) of No. 1 of Article 15 of Law No. 57/2017, of July 19th, and with the first position of the initial level provided for in Article 2 of the Regulatory Decree No. 11-A/2017, of December 29th, corresponding to the level 33 of the single remuneration table.

Selection methods:

The selection will be based on the evaluation of the candidate’s scientific and academic career (APPC). It may be complemented by an interview if the selection committee deems it necessary.

The evaluation of the scientific and curricular career (APPC) focuses on the following two criteria and will be obtained by the following formula:

APCC= 0.5*C1+0.5*C2

Criterion 1: Curricular Evaluation - 50%. Elements to consider: CV (including the list of publications).

Criterion 2: Assessment of revealed qualities to pursue mathematical research and its relevance to the research goals of the Project (areas of Dynamical Systems, Ergodic Theory and Extreme Value Theory) - 50%. Elements to consider: proposed work plan and previous scientific publications.

An individual interview (E) might take place (possibly through videoconference) for the candidates ranked in the first three positions.

Final Classification:

The final classification (CF), in the case of no interview, will be determined by the following formula:

The final classification, in the case of interview, will be determined:

CF=APPC*0.9+E*0.1

Form of advertising / notification of results:

The lists of admitted and excluded candidates as well as the final classification lists will be publicized on the FCUP / Sigarra website and through the means identified under the code of administrative procedure.

 

Application deadline and forms for submitting applications:

The call will be open for 15 working days. Applications must be formalized online, at the webpage https://sigarra.up.pt/fcup/pt/cnt_cand_geral.concursos_list, and include the following documents:

·        Application letter;

·        Certificate of academic degree;

·        CV (including list of publications);

·        Proposed work plan (2 pages maximum);

·        Any other documents considered relevant by the applicant.

 

The jury may ask any candidate to provide supporting documents for their statements. The false statements made by the candidates will be punished according to the law.

Candidates who formalize their application incorrectly will be excluded.

 

Preliminary Hearing and deadline for Final Decision: according to article 121 of the Code of Administrative Procedure, after being notified, the candidates have 10 working days to pronounce.

Within a maximum period of 90 days from the deadline for the submission of applications, the final decisions of the jury are given.

The present recruitment call is exclusively intended to fill the vacancy indicated, and may be terminated until the homologation of the final ranking list of the candidates and expiring with the respective occupation of the job on offer.
