A call is open to award one research grant to develop research activities within the Project “EcOffShorBE – Eco Offshore Built Environment”, NORTE-01-0247-FEDER-037417, financed by FEDER through Northern Regional Operational Programme, in the following conditions:
Research Field: Civil Engineering - Structures
Requirements for admission: Master in Civil Engineering; Fluent in written and spoken English. The candidates with master degree, and those with Bachelor and Master must have an average final classification equal or greater than 14 out of 20. For the evaluation of the final average classification of the candidates with Bachelor and Master, it will be attributed a weight of 60% to the final classification in the Bachelor and 40% to the final classification in the Master.
Work plan: The work will be developed within a R&D Nucleus that aims to study the problems associated with the maritime environmental exposure of concrete when applied in offshore structures. The aim is to study of the performance and durability of fibre reinforced cementitious matrix materials applied to offshore structures, mainly: 1) state of the art of the mechanical behaviour and durability of cementitious matrix materials reinforced with fibres applied in offshore structures; 2) strategies for improving the mechanical and durability of fibre-reinforced cementitious materials with potential application in offshore structures; 3) evaluation of construction and demolition waste for incorporation in cementitious matrix materials; 4) calibration and numerical software assessment of solid-fluid interaction, dynamic analysis, fatigue model behaviour and thermo-hygrometric phenomena in the context of the offshore construction service associated with energy production.
Applicable legislation and regulations: Law Nº. 40/2004, of 18 August (status of the scientific researcher fellow); Regulation of the research grants of the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology. (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml.pt)
Work place: The research work will be developed at the School of Engineering of University of Minho (ISISE – Institute for Sustainability and Innovation in Structural Engineering), under the scientific supervision of Professor José Sena Cruz and Professor Joaquim Barros.
Duration of the Grant: The grant will have the duration of 12 months, beginning in March, 2019, eventually renewed up to the maximum of 24 months into the timetable for the project.
Monthly value of the grant: The value of the grand corresponds to €980, according to the pay scale for the grants funded directly by FCT, I.P. in Portugal (http://alfa.fct.mctes.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores).
Selection criteria: The following methods for selection will be used: curricular assessment, considering the academic performance and previous experience in the field (55%); interview (35%); proficiency in both written and spoken English (10%). The detailed description of the evaluation criteria can be seen below:
1. Academic performance (AP) – 55%
1.1. AP1 – MSc grade: 55%
1.2. AP2 – Scientific production (papers, reports, etc.): 20%
1.3. AP3 – Previous experience in the field of the project: 25%
2. Interview (IN) – 35%
2.1. IN1 – Clarity in presenting scientific work: 50%
2.2. IN2 – Demonstrated knowledge about the field (Q&A): 50%
3. Proficiency in both written and spoken English (EN) – 10%
The final ordering will be obtained through the following formula:
Final grade = 0,55(AP1+AP2+AP3) + 0,35(IN1+IN2)+0,10 (EN)
The grade obtained is expressed in the numerical scale between 0 and 5.
Candidates with AP less than 3.5 points are considered immediately excluded.
For candidates with AP equal to or greater than 3.5 points, the evaluation process includes the interview (IN).
Candidates with final grade less than 3.5 points are considered excluded from the final selection process.
José Manuel de Sena-Cruz, Associate Professor at UM (President)
