Vacancy for 1 Post-doc Research Fellowship
In order to develop the full set of scientific activities of the research project ‘HOPES: HOusing PErspectives and Struggles Futures of housing movements, policies and dynamics in Lisbon and beyond’, funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (PTDC/GES-URB/28826/2017), we hereby announce a research fellowship position at the Institute for Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon (ICS-ULisboa), under the coordination of Doctor Simone Tulumello.
1 – Relevant legislation: Portuguese Law 40/2004, of 18th of August and DL n.º 202/2012 of 27th of August, the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia fellowship regulation, the Instituto de Ciências Sociais da Universidade de Lisboa regulation and the University of Lisbon regulation.
2 – Coordination: Doctor Simone Tulumello.
3 – Duration of Scholarship: 12 months, renewable up to a total duration of 18 months.
4 – Scholarship monthly value and payment method: €1.509.80, monthly paid, in live with FCT (http://alfa.fct.mctes.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores.phtml.pt) scholarship payment’s framework, personal accident insurance and voluntary social insurance.
5 – Host Institution: Institute for Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon.
6 – Tasks to be carried out: The research fellow shall work under the scientific supervision of Doctor Simone Tulumello and Doctor Alda Azevedo, and shall mainly contribute to Task 3 of project HOPES (coordinated by Doctor Alda Azevedo), which is dedicated to the analysis of residential patterns and recent demographic changes in Lisbon. At the same time, Task 3 is coordinated with the other fields of inquiry of the project: the study of social movements in the field of housing and the analysis of housing policies. The activities to be carried out by the research fellow include:
a) Collection and quantitative analysis of data, as well as their spatialization;
b) Development, in collaboration of the other members of the research team, of the outputs of the project;
c) Collaboration to the dissemination of the research findings, namely through the preparation of scientific publications and participation to conferences;
d) Other activities connected with the implementation of the project and to be defined by the coordinators.
7 – Admission requirements: PhD in any discipline within Social Sciences, and preferably in Demography; excellent knowledge of written and spoken English (may be verified in the interview); mastery of methods of demographic analysis and advanced knowledge of at least one statistics software (R, Stata or SPSS). Desirable criteria: knowledge of written and spoken Portuguese; previous experience of research in projects in the fields of project HOPES (and especially in the study of demographic dynamics and housing policies); previous experience of use of Geographic Information Systems.
8 – Public announcement and deadline for applications: This advertisement and the further particulars to this post will be posted in the website of ICS-ULisboa and in the Eracareers portal. Applications should be sent between 4 July and 7 August 2019.
9 – Application: All applications must include (i) a cover letter explaining the applicant’s motivation for applying and interest for the research project, (ii) a detailed Curriculum Vitae, (iii) a copy of the degree diploma and the certificates or authenticated copies of academic qualifications as well as a copy (or number, place and date of emission or the validity) of the passport/identity card and NIF (fiscal identification number).
10 – Evaluation and Selection: The evaluation and selection procedure will be carried out by a jury composed of Doctor Simone Tulumello (president), Doctor Alda Botelho Azevedo and Guya Accornero (CIES-IUL; PI of project HOPES). The evaluation and selection panel will produce a classification order according to the following criteria: CV evaluation (60%), motivation letter (20%) and interview (20%). The selection jury may however decide not to proceed to the interview stage. In that case, the CV evaluation will account for 70% of the final score, and the motivation letter for the remaining 30%.
11- Prior hearing and notification of interested parties: Upon completion of the evaluation, the panel will prepare the draft decision, which will be notified to the interested parties by electronic mail, and the prior hearing must be made in writing, within ten working days of notification. For this purpose, candidates may request the sending of the minutes by e-mail or make the face-to-face consultation of the documents of the procedure at the Institute, during office hours.
