Job description:
Call for 1 PhD Research Grant - Project SPEAR
Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Politécnico do Porto – ISEP, Project SPEAR (NORTE-01-0247-FEDER-040224), is recruiting 1 researcher with a PhD degree for a research grant with reference SPEAR_2019-05. This project is co-funded when applied by Fundo Europeu de Desenvolvimento Regional (FEDER) under the PT2020 partnership agreement, in the following conditions, co-funded when applied by Fundo Europeu de Desenvolvimento Regional (FEDER) under the PT2020 partnership agreement, in the following conditions:

PhD in Informatics or similar
If a foreign higher education institution has granted the qualification, it must comply with the Decreto-Lei 66/2018, of 16 August, and any formalities established therein must be completed until the act of hiring.
3. DURATION OF THE GRANT
From October 2019 until January 2020 (3 months duration), possibly to be renewed according to the project execution and the respective budget.
4. ACTIVITIES AND WORKPLAN
We are looking for researchers with scientific background and motivation for computational applications in the energy field.
The work plan involves the following tasks:
- Design and computational implementation of methods, algorithms, and computational applications;
- Integration and reformulation of existing and developed computational applications;
- Simulation and emulation of the solution proposed in the scope of the project;
- Reports and scientific papers preparation;
- Laboratorial and prototyping activities, including case studies preparation, simulation, and result analysis and presentation;
- Communication and dissemination activities.
5. LEGISLATION AND REGULATIONS
Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação, approved by Lei 40/2004, of 18 August, in the current wording, Regulamento de Bolsas de Investigação da Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, approved by Regulamento 234/2012, in the current wording.
6. SUPERVISION AND WORKPLACE
The candidates to be selected will be scientifically supervised by Prof. Zita Vale.

7. REMUNERATION
Monthly value of the grant: € 1 509,80/month, paid by bank transfer (according to the table of stipends of FCT: http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores.phtml.en), supported through the PAD n.ºC44842.
8. CANDIDATE SELECTION METHOLOGY AND EVALUATION PANEL
Only candidates that have presented the complete set of application documents will be admitted. The selection method will take into account the following components: Curriculum vitae evaluation (60%) and interview (40%). The interview will be conducted in English.
Evaluation panel: Prof. Zita Maria Almeida Vale, Prof. Sérgio Filipe Carvalho Ramos, and Doctor Pedro Nuno Silva Faria. Members of the substitute panel: Prof. Carlos Fernando da Silva Ramos and Prof. Maria Goreti Carvalho Marreiros.
9. RESULTS PUBLICATION AND NOTIFICATION
The candidates will be individually notified by email message on the final evaluation results.
10. APPLICATION
Academic Degree: PhD degree in Informatics or similar area.
Minimum profile required: Solid scientific background in the respective graduation field. Writing and speaking proficiency in English. Good skills for teamwork. Authorship of at least 15 scientific articles, at least 5 of them published in Science Citation Index (SCI) / Journal Citation Reports (JCR) indexed journals, in the targeted research fields.
Preferred profile: Previous research experience involving real-time management and analysis of energy related data, modelling, simulation, including the use of artificial intelligence techniques. Good programming skills and experience in the development of computer applications. Experience in prototypes, involving software and hardware in the energy field.

12. SELECTION RESERVATION
GECAD may opt to select the approved and non-selected candidates in the scope of the current call for contracting researchers for the same project, for a period of 18 months, after the communication of the current call results to the candidates, by withdrawing the initially selected candidate.
