4. Place of work: University of the Azores, Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Biotechnology Centre of Azores, Campus of Angra do Heroísmo, Azores, Portugal.
5. The monthly salary to be attributed is that provided for in item a) of paragraph 1 of article 15 of the RJEC, corresponding to level 33 of the official remuneration table, approved by Administrative Rule no. 1553-C / 2008, December 31st 2021, being a gross pay of 2,128.34 Euros;

If the doctorate degree has been awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of August 16th.
7. General requirements for admission to this call are: - Doctoral degree in Agricultural Sciences, Biology, Biotechnology, or related areas; - An excellent list of publications in the candidate research area; - Excellent knowledge of the English language (oral and written).
8. The selection of the candidate to be hired will be carried out by evaluating the scientific and curricular trajectory of the candidates. This evaluation will focus on the relevance, quality and up-to-dateness of: a) the scientific and technological production of the last five years considered more relevant by the candidate and associated with the thematic area of the call; b) the research activities carried out in the last five years considered as having the greatest impact by the candidate and associated with the thematic area of the call; c) involvement in activities of extension and dissemination of knowledge, promoting the practice and scientific culture, considered of greater importance by the candidate and related to the position now being offered; d) the activities of managing programs and projects of science, technology and innovation.

9. The offered position is described in detail in the following paragraphs:
This position is directed to the development of research activities in the framework of the project “AzNativePlantVirus – Insights on the diversity and prevalence of viruses on Azorean native plants by metagenomics: implications on plant biodiversity conservation and crop production”, coordinated by Duarte Mendonça, the Project PI.
Viruses are widely dispersed in natural ecosystems, are much more diverse than in agroecosystems, and may be important ecological agents. Hence, the threat posed by introduced and indigenous viruses to native plant biodiversity has been ignored almost completely and it has not been taken into consideration on conservation programs. In this project, metagenomic and High Throughput Sequencing (HTS) approaches will be used to access virus diversity in native plants in the Azores, which is still completely unknown. Thus, the researcher to be hired will be involved in several research and outreach activities, such as: i) plant sampling; ii) virus-derived nucleic acids extraction and preparation of libraries for HTS; iii) detection and characterization of viruses by classical molecular methods (e.g., RT-PCR/PCR, sequencing); iv) collaborate on data analysis; v) dissemination of results in scientific meetings and scientific articles.
10. Selection methods and curricular evaluation criteria:
The candidate evaluation will be based on the combined evaluation of the scientific and curricular trajectory of the candidate and an interview.

- experience in plant virology – 15%
Candidates with an score lower than 50% in the curricula revaluation will not be considered to this call.
10.2 - The second component of evaluation is the interview and has a weight of 10%.
11. The final classification system for candidates is expressed on a scale of 0 to 100.

13. Minutes of the jury meetings are drawn up, containing a summary of what has taken place, as well as the votes cast by each of the members and their respective reasonings, and will be available to candidates whenever requested.
