At a meeting of the Academic and Scientific Committee on 02 september 2020, it was decided to open a tender for the international selection of 1 PhD position to carry out research activities in the scope of the Art History Institute—IHA UIDP/00417/2020, supported by the Foundation for Science and Technology through National Funds. The employment contract will be an indefinite term work contract under the scope of the Portuguese Labour Code with a view to carrying out research activities specified by the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (NOVA FCSH). The notice and the selection boards were approved on 03 november 2020 by the Rector of Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

Description of the position:
The Art History Institute—IHA UIDP/00417/2020 aims to:
enhance its strategic plan for the forthcoming years, which has been approved and classified as "Excellent" by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology in the 2017-2019 evaluation process. The plan seeks to reinforce the international scope of IHA's research, while also working to consolidate its main domains of research via R&D projects, international networking, institutional partnerships and the articulation between research and art historical education.

IHA's general objectives encompass (1) the promotion of international visibility for Portuguese historiography, and for international discussions about art produced in, or related to, Portugal; (2) deepen the study of all areas of art history, museum studies, heritage and conservation practices, art theory, contemporary art practices in articulation with education and training programs for researchers; (3) support R&D projects and build research teams able to put forward innovative and multidisciplinary approaches to an all-embracing art history field; (4) to assert art history as a fundamental domain for the definition of Portuguese and EU's cultural policies.

These objectives are anchored in strategic areas, such as the thematic line "Cultural Transfers in a Global Perspective" which studies processes of migration, travelling objects and ideas, colonial and post-colonial circuits and cultural networks, from a historical and theoretical perspective. This thematic line encompasses the study of Japanese, Latin American, South Asian, Mediterranean and the Lusophone Africa contexts of art production, reception and exchanges.

The contracted PhD researcher will be integrated in the project team and will participate in the following tasks of scientific research and dissemination of knowledge:
1) Actively contribute to deepen knowledge and debates associated to Cultural Transfers in a Global Perspective with an individual research project;
2) Actively contribute to the dynamics of IHA's thematic line Cultural Transfers in a Global Perspective;
3) Actively contribute to the submission and development of international R&D projects and networks in the scope of IHA's thematic line Cultural Transfers in a Global Perspective;
4) Publish the results of the research carried on in international scientific journals with peer review;
5) Ensure the editorial coordination of IHA's Revista de História da Arte/Art History Journal.

The contracting procedure of the PhD researcher will be carried out under the scope of Degree-Law No. 57/2016, of 29 August, amended by Law 57/2017, of 19 July, which approves a contracting regime of PhD holders designed to stimulate scientific and technical employment in all areas of knowledge (RJEC), and the Portuguese Labour Code, approved by Law No. 7/2009, of 12 February, in its current wording.

The PhD researcher will be contracted for an indefinite period of time under the scope of the point b) of the number 1 of the article .6º of RJEC, ex vi, number 2 of article 18.º of RJEC, that is equivalent to the execution of work related to the specific activities.

Under the terms of article 2 of Regulatory Degree No. 11-A/2017, of 29 December, the contract to be signed is remunerated according to the basic remuneration of 3.191,82€.

The work position will be at the premises of Art History Institute, located at Colégio Almada Negreiros – Campus de Campolide, 1099-032 Lisbon Portugal, and/or other locations necessary to carry out the research activities.

Tender applicants can be Portuguese, foreign, or stateless candidates holding a PhD degree in Art History, and related areas, with a scientific and/or professional curriculum showing a suitable profile for the position in the tender.

The selection of PhD researcher to be hired will be carried out through the assessment of the academic background and curricula of the candidates for the position in the tender. In general terms, this evaluation will concern relevance, quality and state of the art: a) Of the scientific, cultural and artistic production in the last five years considered most important by the candidate and connected with the position in the tender; b) Of the research activities carried out in the last five years and considered to have had the greatest impact by the candidate, connected with the position in the tender; c) Of the activities regarding the extension and dissemination of knowledge carried out in the last five years, specifically in the context of promoting culture and scientific practices, considered of greatest importance by the candidates, connected with the position in the tender.

The period of five years which is mentioned in the previous paragraph, may be increased by the selection board, at the request of the candidate when based on the suspension of scientific activity for socially protected reasons, particularly reasons involving paternity leave, long-term serious illness, and other legally protected situations of being unavailable for work.

Two selection methods will be applied in two phases: in the 1st phase a Curricular Evaluation (CE) and in the 2nd phase an Interview (I), with the following points: CE 0-90 points and I 0-10 points. Only the candidates with a CE classification equal or higher than 75 points will be admitted to the 2ª phase (I).

The evaluation and ranking criteria for the candidates are the following:
The scientific, cultural and artistic production considered of greatest importance by the candidates, connected with the positions in the tender, to be evaluated in terms of the intrinsic quality of the respective content (0 – 40 points);
Research activities considered of greatest importance by the candidates, connected with the positions in the tender, involving coordination and/or participation in research projects assessed by national and international entities; submission of approved or non-approved applications; communications given at scientific meetings; scientific arbitration activities; participation in networks and partnerships; the research project proposal and the respective activity plan (0 – 40 points);
Extension and/or dissemination activity considered of greatest importance by the candidates, connected with the positions in the tender, including the organization of scientific meetings; the issuing of opinions; studies and reports for public and private entities and civil society stakeholders; spreading of knowledge to extended publics; presentation of research results within the media (0 – 10 points).

Candidates with lack of absolute merit that didn’t achieve a final classification of 80 points, won’t be admitted to the position.

Copy of the curriculum vitae of the candidate, signed and dated, organized according to the instructions present in the No. 11 of the Public Notice (evaluation of the academic background and curricula of the position in question);
Three publications considered the most important by the candidate, connected with the position;
Research project for the position in tender that must include a plan for scientific publications, dissemination activities and competitive national and international fundraising (maximum 10 pages).

In the case of the PhD of the selected candidates has been conferred by a foreign higher education institution, the recognition of the referred degree must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law No. 66/2018, from August 16th. Under penalty exclusion, any formalities referent to the degree recognition must be fulfilled until the contract signature date.
