A call is open for 1 MASTER RESEARCH GRANT, reference BD-2/SYMBIOTIC/BIOMARK, of the project Symbiotic/665046, financed by the Horizon 2020 program of the European Commission.
The grant holder will be engaged in the research activities of the project SYMBIOTIC (Innovative autonomous electrical biosensor synergistically assembled inside a passive direct methanol fuel cell for screening cancer biomarkers) that will take place in the research unit BioMark, Sensor Research, of Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto (ISEP), expectedly from 1st of June of 2015 and will be part of a research team (https://www.isep.ipp.pt/biomark/) mostly devoted to the development of biomimetic materials for biosensors.

RESEARCH GRANT FOR MASTER HOLDER AVAILABLE

A call is open for 1 MASTER RESEARCH GRANT, reference BD-2/SYMBIOTIC/BIOMARK, of the project Symbiotic/665046, financed by the Horizon 2020 program of the European Commission.
The grant holder will be engaged in the research activities of the project SYMBIOTIC (Innovative autonomous electrical biosensor synergistically assembled inside a passive direct methanol fuel cell for screening cancer biomarkers) that will take place in the research unit BioMark, Sensor Research, of Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto (ISEP), expectedly from 1st of June of 2015 and will be part of a research team (https://www.isep.ipp.pt/biomark/) mostly devoted to the development of biomimetic materials for biosensors.
1. SCIENTIFIC AREA
Chemical Engineering or similar
Priority sub-areas: 1- Fuel cells, preferably PEMFC; 2- Heterogeneous electrocatalysis; 3- Electrochemical biosensors (non-potentiometric transduction); 4- Electrochemistry with emphasis in electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.
2. ACADEMIC BACKGROUND/PROFILE OF THE CANDIDATE
The call is open for candidates holding a Master degree in Chemical Engineering or similar areas. Preference will be given to candidates with experience on the subjects connected to the project, according to the priority sub-areas listed above. Motivation for being enrolled in a PhD program will be taken into account. Motivation for medium term internships on the research facilities of the other project consortium partners is mandatory.
3. FELLOWSHIP TERM
Full time research fellowship for 1 year that may be renewed each year, expected to start in the 1st of June of 2015 and obeying to all regulations established by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (more information http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml.en) and by ISEP (more information may be found in http://dre.pt/pdf2sdip/2010/05/088000000/2453224536.pdf).
4. ACTIVITY/WORK PLAN
The objective of the grant is the development of fuel cells integrating plastic antibodies targeted for tracking cancer biomarkers.
5. LEGISLATION AND LEGAL STATUS
Law 40/2004, 18 August (Legal Status of the Research Grantee). Regulation 405/2010, published in Diário da República Nº 88, Série II 6 de Maio de 2010, p. 24532. Regulation 234/2012, for the Research Grants of Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P. - 2012 (the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology), published in Diário da República Nº 121, Série II, 25 Junho de 2012, p. 22117, changed by Regulation 326/2013, 27 Agosto.
6. SCIENTIFIC SUPERVISION/LOCAL OF ACTIVITY
The grant holder will be supervised by the PI of the project, Lúcia Brandão, PhD and co-supervised by Maria Goreti Ferreira Sales, PhD. The work will be developed mostly in the research unit BioMark, Sensor Research, of ISEP but also in other national and international I&D institutions.
7. PAYMENT
€980 per month (not taxable), including voluntary social security payment, according to the legal rights as published at FCT: http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores.phtml.en. The grant is paid each month by bank transfer (PAD C25893).
8. SELECTION METHODS AND JURI PANEL
A. Curriculum Evaluation
A1. Academic qualifications (area and grades)
A2. Publications (journals with ISI impact factor, book chapters, abstracts in conferences, or other relevant documents)
A3. Research Experience (time and area of prior research activities)
The candidates will be classified on a scale of 0 to 20 for each criterion. The score of criteria A will be the average of all components (A1, A2 and A3).
B. Interview
The top 5 positions of the list obtained from criteria A will be invited for an Interview, scheduled with the candidate by e-mail. This interview can be made via Skype (or other equivalent way) for candidates outside Porto city, being this procedure considered equal to a personal/local interview. Professional and behavioral skills will be evaluated in English language only. The interview will be scored from 0 to 20.
Final score
70% A + 30% B (candidates without interview will have a score of 0 in the interview evaluation)

9. PUBLICATION/NOTIFICATION OF RESULTS
This call will be published in the ERACareers portal and the ISEP website. The applicants score list will be sent to all by e-mail, not later than the 15th of May of 2015.
