Applications are being accepted for 1 Master’s Degree Scholarship for the project Complete Works of Aristotle: Translation and Commentary (Fifth Phase) PTDC/MHC-FIL/0787/2014 financed by public funds through FCT/MCTES (PIDDAC), under the following conditions:
Field of study: Philosophy
Admission requirements: Applicants should hold a master’s degree in one of the following scientific fields: Philosophy; Classics; Greek Philology. They must have knowledge of Classical Greek and master at least one major modern language in addition to their mother tongue. Prior scientific work on Aristotle would be an asset. Candidates who are not Portuguese native speakers are expected to reach a level of proficiency to enable them to interact daily in this language by the end of the first 12-month period.
Work plan: Carry out diligently the assignments leading to the completion of a PhD thesis, or research of similar nature, on any topic of Aristotelian thought; assist in the process of translation, proofreading and editing of materials included in the collection of the complete works of Aristotle; assist in project activities, including proofreading, organizing events, updating bibliographic database and website maintenance; participate in the activities of the research group in which the project is integrated and assist in its implementation.

Location: The activities related to the scholarship will take place in the Centre of Philosophy of the University of Lisbon, under the supervision of Professor António Pedro Mesquita
Length of scholarship: The scholarship will last for 12 months, commencing on September 2016. The scholarship contract may be renewed up to a maximum of 36 months.
Amount of monthly allowance: The amount of the scholarship corresponds to €980 monthly, according to the table for the scholarships awarded directly by the FCT, I.P. in the country (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores). Scholarships will be paid monthly by bank transfer.
The carrying out of the duties of the scholarship holder is to be performed on an exclusive basis, under Art. 5 of the Bylaw of Scholarships for Scientific Research.
Selection criteria: The selection criteria will be the following: curriculum evaluation; evaluation of the research programme. The valuation of each method is respectively: 50%; 50%. In addition to these documents, the applicant may be askwed to undergo a written test or to be interviewed. The research programme should be up to 1,500 words, excluding references, and must include: a summary; state of the art; objectives; detailed description; bibliography.

Publication of the selection results: The final selection results will be made public in the form of a rank order and posted for public consultation at the Centre for Philosophy of the University of Lisbon, and publicized on the FLUL website at http://www.letras.ulisboa.pt/pt/investigacao/bolsas-de-investigacao/bolsas-flul.
Applicants may contest the final rank order list up to 10 working days following the day of its publication.
