Call for PhD Studentships in the scope of the Doctorate Program FCT PhD in Health Sciences (Applied) of the University of Minho, BD-PhD-iHES
Applications are open for 5 PhD studentships under the FCT PhD Program in Business Environment called the PhD Program in Health Sciences (applied) at the University of Minho. The grants awarded under this call for proposals are funded from the State Budget of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education and, where eligible, from European Social Fund funds through the Operational Programs for the 2014-2020 programming period of Portugal 2020, namely the Operational Program for Human Capital, the Regional Operational Program for the North, the Center or Alentejo in accordance with the provisions of the Specific Regulation of the Type of Intervention under the following conditions:
- Duration and Activity Regime
Annual duration, expected start date in Abril 2018, renewable up to a maximum of 4 years, on an exclusive dedication. The activities will be developed at the School of Medicine of the University of Minho, in the Associated Laboratory ICVS / 3B's, in the companies associated to the PhD program and other affiliated institutions, according to the Fellowships Regulation of the Foundation for Science and Technology, IP (Http://alfa.fct.mctes.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml).
2. Object of Activity and Scientific Orientation
The research activities will be developed in the field of health sciences in the industry setting. The specific research projects and supervisors will be defined individually taking into consideration the preferences of the selected candidates and the guidelines provided by the directive board of the PhD Program.
- Admission Requirements:
Applicants must hold a Master degree in Sciences, or legal equivalent, with a final average grade in the Bachelor degree of 14 in a 0--20 scale or higher (or equivalent for universities using other scales) and a final average grade in the Master degree in Sciences (or legal equivalent) of 16 in a 0--20 scale or higher (or equivalent for universities using other scales), or of 15 in a 0--20 scale or higher (or equivalent for universities using other scales) in the case of Integrated Master degree.
Applicants who completed the curricular units of the Master degree, with exception of the thesis, may also be admitted as long as the thesis is defended and the Master degree formally completed until December 31st 2017; in such circumstances the same classification criteria applies for all curricular units completed until the date of application.
Experience in scientific projects:
Candidates must have participation in research projects documented by official registers or letters of recommendation; Other documented forms of active participation in research and development, not provided for by the criteria described above, may be considered by the Jury if judged as having equal value.
Candidates must be authors of at least one presentation at an international congress. This classification requirement can be overcome only if the candidate is an internationally peer-reviewed author or has an active participation in obtaining a patent.
- Evaluation and selection criteria
Applicants will be selected for interview based on curriculum evaluation: academic qualification (40%), experience in research projects (30%), scientific production - publications and presentations in congresses and/or participation in patent development (10%), letter of motivation (10%) and letters of reference (10%). The top 30 candidates in the curriculum evaluation will be invited for an interview. Among the applicants interviewed, up to 5 will be selected according to the curriculum evaluation (50%) previously specified and the interview (50%).

In the event of the absence of the President of the Selection Committee, the first effective member will replace him.
- Notification of results
Notification of the results will be provided through the electronic address provided by the applicants.
- Monthly amount
The amount of the research grant corresponds to € 980, according to the table of values of grants awarded directly by FCT, I.P. In the country (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores). The payment of the scholarship will be made monthly by bank transfer.
The scholarship are awarded under the Research Fellow Holder Statute, approved by Law no. 40/2004, of August 18 and amended and republished by Decree-Law no. 202/2012 of August 27, as amended by Decree-Laws Nº 89/2013 of July 9, Decree-Law no. 233/2012 of October 29 and Law nº 12/2013 of January 29, and by the Regulation of Fellowships and Research of the Foundation for Science and Technology (www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml.pt).
- Deadline for submission of applications
Applications must be submitted between January 15 and January 31, 2018 by email, to the email address email@example.com, with the subject “Fellowship Application Refª. BD-PhD-iHES-2017”.

1) Curriculum Vitae (Europass format containing information regarding academic qualifications, subject of the Master's thesis, involvement in research projects, presentations at conferences, authorship in scientific paper);
2) Online application form correctly filled (available at www.med.uminho.pt/pt/candidaturas-PhD or www.med.uminho.pt/en/applications-PhD) (in this form, the contact email information of 2 or 3 potential individuals willing to provide reference to the candidate is mandatory. The Program secretariat will directly request these reference letters; reception of at least two of these is necessary for the application to be considered);
3) Proof of academic qualifications;
4) Other information the applicant considers relevant for consideration.
