Centro de Estudos Africanos/Centre of African Studies (CEA-ISCTE) is a Research and Development Unit associated with the ISCTE (University Institute for Social Sciences, Business Studies and Technologies), and accredited by the Foundation for Science and Technology of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. CEA was classified with Very Good in the last international evaluation periodically promoted by the Foundation. Description
In order to expand its research permanent staff, CEA is recruiting three PhD to specific research areas and themes which were defined as a priority for the next five years.
The researcher’s profile for this reference should include a vast and internationally recognized experience in issues related to conflicts, security, and international strategic relations with Africa. Additionally, the researcher should have a sound knowledge and experience with working with cooperation and development institutions, both national and international.
The researcher recruited will be expected to perform the following tasks:
- conduct research in the area of conflicts, security and sustainability, Africa and world relations and strategy;
- prepare applications for national and international projects and promote new research projects and scientific activities;
- promote the quality and internationalisation of CEA scientific production, namely publications, organisation of scientific meetings and events;
- contribute to CEA evaluation procedures and definition of its strategic guidelines;
Qualifications and experience
Applicants should have a PhD in African Studies, Development Studies, or other Social Sciences, at least three years of post-doctoral experience, a good publication record in the area of conflict and international relations related subjects in Africa.
Conditions of Employment
CEA is offering a fixed-term contract with a maximum duration of five years. The gross salary is equivalent to the index 195 of the Portuguese scientific researchers' pay scale. The hosting institution is the Centro de Estudos Africanos.
